LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

It's an official rating system of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). And a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

In the last few years, a number of Las Vegas properties were designed to be LEED certified.

Unfortunately, the recession hit. Some projects just disappeared. While others stopped construction, with no word about when they might start again.

The three most visible projects are The Palazzo (completed), City Center (completed) and Echelon Place (construction suspended).
